I have a new stout tfo 8wt with a sink tip and was thinking it would be really fun to take it to the flyfishing only section on the Kalama for some coho. But i have never caught a salmon on a flyrod before so need a few pointers like leader length and lb test and what flies to use and what water to look for? Any help appreciated

Black flies. I use four foot section of straight 12 Lb Floro. Alot of guys use huge leaders (12 feet or so) over there but i don't think it is necessary. I might go down to 8 LB Flouro if the sun is on the water. Make sure you get there early to get a spot, it gets crowded.

rosstucker32 has you in the right direction...

I tend to be somewhere in the middle...7 - 9 foot leader of 10lb flouro.

Also, don't forget the olive colored stuff in addition to black!

Like he said, get there early but don't be affraid to stay late too (last 20 minutes can be on fire)!
