I just got this motor last year. 4 stroke 2008 honda 8 hp. How can you get this motor to idle? It seemed to work fine last year but this year when back off on the throttle after starting and seems plenty warm (no choke), it won't stay started. To keep running I have to keep reving it. I used it about 3-4 hrs total on the motor. Any ideas? Could be a green horn issue but I am thinking a trip to Steven's marine or bob lamphere is in order or there won't be any tidewater fishing. I use it for my 16' willies DB.

Sounds like my T-8 when i fired it up this year. Mine was ethanol related. Carb needed to be cleaned, and idle adjusted a bit.

When you turn it off last year did you drain the carburetor? There is a valve you can open that drains all the gas out of the carburetor so it will not gum up the carburetor during the winter when it is not being used. If this wasn't done, the only way to fix it is to take the carburetor and blow it out with compressed air after you have removed it from the engine.

Good Luck

My 8hp Honda had idle issues this year...I took off the carb and cleaned it with Carb Cleaner...in every hole and bowl too...it runs like it did brand new.

There is probably a slight blockage somewhere. The idle adjustment may have backed off from vibration but I doubt it.

After sitting for the last couple of months your fuel in the carb has gone bad. Take it apart and clean it or take it to someone to get it done. The idle jets are very small and plug easily.
