My trailer bunks are shot on my ez loader and the lags are pulling out. I want to run an idea by the experts. Why couldn't I use the deck composite 2x6's and counter sink some bolts thru the bracket?? And would I have to recarpet or could I coat them with a glovit or something similiar. Has anyone ever tried this before??

IMO,the composite decking wouldn't be nearly stout enough. Having built a deck out of it,its pretty flimsy until its secured to the joists.
I don't think you'd have enough support for the bunks to make it work well.
You might give the guys at Rogue trailers a call. Their bunks are made of UHMW IIRC. Its similar to what the decking is,but will take the weight of your boat.
I had a Rogue trailer under my Alumaweld. The bunks were some slick stuff.

^ I second the UHMW that the Rogue trailers use. Just go to Stevens and order two bunks from them, they outlast carpeted for sure.

Thanks for the responses. I will probably get the rogue bunks later, but for now, they are closed until Set 8th and I need to fish. I bought new pressure treated 2x6s and will be reinstalling this afternoon.
Thanks again for the info

Be sure you buy the correct fastners for the PT lumber. A couple years back they changed the chemical formula for the PT lumber and now its corrosive to galvanized fastners.

My Rogue trailer came with composite 2x6's for bunks. They are not coated or carpeted and they function just fine.
