Klamath 13 Jac flatbottom

I am trying to figure out the best motor for this jon boat. I want to plane 2-3 guys upriver(Umpqua - appears to be 4-5 knot moving water at times). I tried an 8 hp Honda and it worked fine for just me. Thinking of swapping it for a 15-20 manual long shaft outboard. A 15 Bigfoot Merc is for sale, but I'm hesitant about it being able to plane this boat.

Idea...first off would be to post somewhere other than the classifieds.=)

For the actual question though...15 would probably be ok. The 18hp Evinrude Fastwin on my boat will do 30 mph with just me in it, 22 with 2 adults, and 18 with 3.

BTW mine is a 1436 Delcraft jon boat.

Those 13 Wide Jac boat's are rated at 20 hp. Thats where I'd start.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I will sell my 8 hp and look to upgrade into a 20
