I've got a Smokercraft and I've mounted the transducer outside the hull. The problem I have is that anything over 10 mph it doesn't sense the depth...I've read the instructions about mounting inside the hull but it says that its only good for "single layer fiberglass" hulls,no mention of aluminum....
So my question is, what are you guys with aluminum boats doing to get away from this problem?
Do I need a different transducer that will see thru the aluminum, or is there away to mount what I have in a way that will work??

Thanks for the help!

I'd guess your transducer is either set too low or is near a chine that puts off bubbles that mess up the signal when under way. I don't know of a thru hull unit for aluminum.

Try tipping it slightly forward , so the signal gets bounced up to it easier while underway ...
This will also help if there is a slight cavitation problem with it causing its own turbulence ...

Could the problem be that it's riding to high?
do you normally mount them so that they are below the bottom of the boat just slightly??
