I have a EZ Loader tandem with oil bath hubs. 3 years old. I noticed a little oil on the inside of the tire, looks like it is coming from the inside the brake drum. Don't see much if any loss of oil. What does this mean? Leaking seal?

Thanks

I would say that you are right. New seals and oil. $5 dollars a wheel and you get to check and clean the brakes as well if any oil is on them:twocents:

My first call would be to EZ loader. My EZ loader is also 3 years old and for a short time they had odd sized seals/spindles. I replaced the drums with disc brakes and fought with leaking seals until EZ loader fessed up and told me they tried an oddball spindle size. Everyone other than EZ loader used a standard sized spindle/seal.

The seals that everyone else used were just a smidge larger and the oil would leak out the seal.

Calling EZ loader first will probably save you from buying the wrong sized replacement seal.

Since you "don't see much if any loss of oil" then you may want to check the wheel or slave cylinder. Boat trailers are notoriously hard on brakes.

thanks guys.

another question

if you back up without using the lockout on the surge brakes, does it tighten up the brakes like other trailers?

I don't think so because of the lack of self adjusting cables like on your car or truck.

is the cap all plastic? If so, I just replaced mine with the aluminum
caps with a plastic window. I found out the hard way, one cracked and
leaked on the way home. After reading up on these, plastic caps are for
idler hubs (non-braking) and the aluminum caps are for braking hubs.
any ez-loader dealer has them ($10.00 ea.)
