I have a 175 Sport Jet with 165 hours on it. It's running great, but I would like to have normal maintenance performed on it so that it keeps running great. Can anyone recommend a shop or mechanic I can take this to (or should avoid), and also a rough cost estimate (replace plugs, adjust carbs if required, check engine timing, drain and replace drive and stator housing lubricants, remove and lube impeller shaft, replace engine filter - am I missing anything)? Given some of the places I take this boat to, I have to have complete confidence that its not going to quit on me.
On the 15 HP merc outboard, I tried to check the fuel filter yesterday, but could not get the sight bowl to budge. I tried turning it counter clockwise, clockwise ...it didn't matter. It just wouldn't move. I don't want to break anything with salmon season underway so I probably won't touch it for another month or two, but any suggestions?
Thanks!

If you havent done so, i would dump the oil injection on the SJ and go to premix.

Why?
If its a newer SJ or if the oder 1 had the warranty work done. They are very reliable motors with auto mix.Call a repair shop and ask them how many problems they see with the mixers.Hardly any is what I have been told by a few shops.Probably less than what they get when guys screw up the mix and fry their motors.
I trust my SJ completely.
Now for the question that was asked. I would look into StevensMarine I f I was you.Couldnt guess on a price.

Where do you live Captain? If you live in the Portland metro area then Stevens is probably the place to go. Or you can buy a manual and learn to do it yourself. You'd save a bundle of money. Hint: If you can change the oil and spark plugs in your car then you should be mechanically inclined enough to do this yourself.
Since salmon season is upon us it probably won't hurt to wait until after the season before you monkey with your kicker, or even big motor either. You said they're running good right now right? Besides, since its basically the peak of the boating season, you may not be able to even get a shop to look at it.
Oh, and since it was brought up, I have about 300 hrs on my 175SJ and have had no problems with my oil injection. The early motors did have problems with a gear in the oil injector. It was the subject of a factory recall. I talked to the Guys at Clemens here in Eugene and after they punched the serial number into the computer, I learned mine was done when the original owner had my boat years ago. They went on to tell me the recall work took care of the problem and haven't seen very many (if any) problems with them.

Mine was an 01 with the new oiler gears. Motor shelled at 80hrs. I bought it that way.
I disagree about the new SJ's being any better, but I have already stated my opnion on this in other posts. So I wont do it again.

Just realized that a mod must have edited my orginall post for referencing a non approved vendor.
I had answered the question asked, but it looks like only approved vendors are allowed to be mentioned.
