Could you post up some pics of your Boat, inside and Out? I am considering one of these as my next boat but can't find very many "Good" pics. Are you happy with it?

Thanks,
DTS

You might want to check out iboats...there is a large Starcraft group over there under the restoration forum. The older aluminum Starcrafts are my favorite. They sure look good with a bit of new paint and wood work.

Cheers,
Kyle

I overhalled my '86 Starcraft from one end to the other. Made it into just the way I wanted it. With the help of IBOATS.COM, it came out pretty good. If you have any questions, send me a PM. I also took alot of picture in the remodel stage.

I have had 2 Older Starcrafts a 74 16' and a 63 daycabin 18' and for older boats you cant go wrong, just be sure of the bottom before you purchase, look over the rivets real good and make sure the transom is solid even though it wouldn't be to impossible to redo, other than that they are bulletproof.

Good luck and pm me if you have any questions as I went through both boats pretty good and learned a lot.

Be very careful when buying an older Starcraft as they are known for a weak transom. I told my neighbor about the transom issues but he just had to have the boat 1976 model with 70hp Johnson. He just got rid of it a month ago after having it for about 6 or 7 months....that's right the transom was cracking and coming apart. I think I would consider buying something else if I were you.

I have a 16' Starcraft that is from the 60's or 70's. It is a heck of a boat and besides the holes i put in it trying to redo some flooring a few years back is still just fine. I would recommend them to anyone.

My first boat was an 18' 1965 Starcraft. I loved that rig. I did have some trouble with the connection between the motor well and the transom leaking but that was probably because I ran a bit too much engine for the boat...I put a brand new (early 1990s) pro-V Yamaha 115 on the boat and she used to fly.

My next two boats have been progressively nicer and fancier but not necessarily fishier!

Thanks for the tips guys, Iboats is a great site. I am pretty sure I just lost my secondary job, so there goes my near future plans to upgrade to a bigger boat.

Thanks again,
Daryn

Can't speak for the heavier aluminum boats (NR, Alum weld, ete), but my 18' Starcraft is a kidney cruncher. It will handle the rough water OK, but being so light it will ride high on the waves and pound down hard in the valleys. This is my own opinion, personally I won't tale my Starcraft in saltwater. I've seen what salt does to aluminum and do not want to go through the repairs again. When we fish salt, we take my buddies fiberglass. When we fish fresh water, my Starcraft gets the call.
