Taking the Mancation to Diamond Lake next year after 2 years in the Steens. Is June a good time of year there or should we try to go earlier or later?
Thanks

If you can handle the cold go opening weekend!!! icefishing can be a blast there and i have a family member that always limits when he goes with the ice. Also right after ice is gone can be great too.

Depends on the year and the ice. I wouldn't waste my time going and fishing through the ice unless that is just something you "have" to do. I like fishing out of my boat a lot more. :D
After ice out and before the huge hatches of insects is going to be great fishing. I will be there fly fishing so I don't have to keep my first 5 fish. Bait fishing isn't that conducive to C&R. Plus, the fly rod is the only way to really enjoy those fiesty bows. Later in the year you have to work a lot harder to get into the fish.

We camped for four nights just before Memorial Day Weekend this year. The ice had only been off for three or foue days. The bugs were not bad yet and the fishing was terrific.
Good luck

Like the earlier post mentioned, I've read that the fishing is better early but sometimes the lake doesn't thaw out until Memorial Day.
We went in July and had a blast... fishing was okay but it was great warm weather for the kids. :twocents:
