I have a new Hewescraft that came with a single battery. I want to add a second battery. When I am at the fishing hole or trolling, using my chartplotter depthfinder and start my main the whole system resets. Any one have a diagram or discussion on how I can rig up a dual battery system and make sure that my electronics are isolated from the startup reset?

Get one of these -

Install your new battery in a box. Mount this thing on the side of one of your battery boxes. Get 2 jumper wires - automotive #4's that will go from battery 1 to this unit, then from this unit to battery 2. If these jumpers are black, then wrap red electrical tape around them to indicate they are 12V DC hots. Place these jumpers on the + side of the 2 batteries. Get one more jumper that will go from the - on battery 1 to the negative on battery 2.

Run a new wire (a 12 ga or 14 ga) from the new battery + up to your console. Connect all the electronics to this new wire. Both batteries will charge, the new battery will power your electronics and not "drop" them when you start.

The way Orca described it is one method.

An alternative is to purchase a BEP single engine cluster with VSR already assembled to the cluster.

In this instance you just just run your wiring from the start battery and the house battery to the cluster. The main and house batteries are not connected except for the ground. As Orca noted, you should then run from the cluster to the front of the boat a single hot and ground wire and then install a dual bus bar and all your electronics will run off that. When you main runs it will charge the start battery, then when it is fully charged to 13.7v the relay opens and charges your house bank.

Either way is fine, the BEP just combines everything in one cluster and includes your emergency crossover switch.

After seeing that set up from BEP marine, I think that will be my next purchase to replace the dual battery switch....Thanks for the tip. :applause::applause::applause:
