Here is a letter my mom sent out to everyone asking for prayer requests.... He owns a large cattle ranch (McBride Herfer Ranch) in SE WA. I am hoping my parents will allow me to go up and help keep the ranch going while my cousin and his friends are the only ones holding pieces together....

I have a prayer request. My brother, Gary, has been sick and unable to work for a month now. It started out like the flu. Fever, fatigue, wt. loss, etc. after a few weeks he started having severe vertigo to the point of being unable to stand up. Then last week it started affecting his vision, he was slurring his words, his balance was so bad he couldn't walk but the dizziness seemed to go away. They had been to the doctor a number of times and no one could tell them anything. Finally this weekend Doris took him back to Seattle to the hospital ER and they admitted him. The doctors and a neurologist saw him right away as well as a team of neurologists Mon. morning. That afternoon they did a battery of tests including a spinal tap. They have come to the conclusion that it is a virus. What's curious is that their neighbor farmer is at OHSU with similar symptoms and they confirmed he has West Nile Virus. They can't say for sure with Gary because the test for WNV has to be done in the very early stages. The doctors told them that he might not get better and could get worse. They just don't know because they don't know what they are dealing with. They are doing more tests and those results could take weeks to get back. They told Doris he should go to a convalescent home because he wouldn't be safe in their house w/o accomodations being made for a bedroom on the main floor, etc. She said no to that. He can't walk so will have to be in a wheel chair and can't read because of his vision. It's all so sad. My parents drove to Seattle this morning and got there right after G&D had gotten the news. Mom said that Gary just sobbed and cried. He wants to work and ride his horse again. The future is very uncertain. They will probably lose the ranch if he can't work again. Eric is holding things together but it's their less busy time right now so he can keep up. So, please pray as I know you will. For wisdom for the doctors, peace for Gary & his family, healing and that he won't get worse.

It's hard to understand what God is doing after Doris had that aneurysm and now this.
Anyway, I'll keep you posted and thanks for praying. Sorry this email was so long. It's a lot to explain
