I just have a quick question. The motor is a 76 and was curious if there is any difference in auto heads and marine heads? I can pick up another good running 302 from a buddy for not to much money and was thinking about just swapping the heads.
Thanks
Mike

No difference, as long as the exhaust bolts are the same size. They may be different design, but this would only change performance, they would still fit.

Might be the same on a 302 but I had a 351 and they were different. I'm sure the auto heads would work but the heads on my 351 were had no smog stuff and had smaller combustion chambers. Also all the soft plugs if any need to be brass.:twocents:

I admit that I'm not that familiar with Ford heads, but I'm pretty sure 351 Widsor heads are different than 351 Cleveland. I bet that's what happened here.

351C's (and 351M's for that matter) are big blocks, where the 302/351W are small blocks. The heads wont even come close to bolting on.
Windsor heads should interchange no problem on Windsor engines. That said, all heads are not created equal performance wise. You don't want heads off the 140hp 302 out of the King Cobra II Mustang for example;)

Actually, Heads from a 351C/351M/400M will bolt right onto a 302/351W block IE... 302 BOSS. The intake manifold will not fit and one would have to be custom made or found in the after market. Also the pistons would have to be replaced as the Cleveland heads have canted valves. Some work on the water passages also needs to be done as the Windsor style heads have the thermostat in the intake manifold and Cleveland style heads have the thermostat in the block.

Before you buy a head make sure the water passages are the same. I have a 318 marine and the heads have different water passages then a standard auto head.
Marine heads are usually different from auto heads. so just make sure before you install/run them on your boat. :twocents::twocents::twocents:
Good luck to you, :flowered:

Not even close the the truth. The motor was a modified. The automotive and marine heads were different as I said.
