View Full Version : Theft problem at Diamond Lake ???
I read on another thread that folks have gas cans and stuff stolen out of their beached boats at Diamond Lake. We're headed down there next week and I was thinking about taking a bunch of toys (rifles, electronics, etc.) to play with and I'm wondering if that's a good idea if stuff is being stolen.
We'll be staying in the cabins, so is stuff pretty safe in the cabins and locked in vehicles, or should I leave some of the spendy toys (AR-15's, ham radios, multiple Rino radios/GPS's, spotting scope, laser rangefinder, etc.) at home?

Well now that you have put up a thief's shopping list on a public form, I would say I would rethink what your taking with you , and when your going to be there. Just my thought on the matter.

Frankly, I was the one who said that and I'm not even sure if they still have a problem. It's just something I always think about because we always had to worry about it back in the day.
And actually, it was when we docked our boats.
One year my Uncle went after someone in his undies in the middle of the night. I'll never forget that! LOL

That is great to hear Bassmaster. I was wondering if fishing gear was safe to leave on the boat at night. We used to years ago & never had any problems. But that was years ago & I was wondering if anything has changed from the old days. The only thing we discovered is that you don't want to leave any food onboard. There are definitely critter type thieves there. :hoboy: What a mess that can be.

I was there a couple of weeks ago. Moored the boat 3 nights, left everything in it, and had no issues. Even electronics and all the rods! The guys at the marina said that there had been no problems this summer whasoever. Fishing was decent with about a 16 inch average. The largest was 22 inches and right about 4 lbs. We still fished with power bait and night crawlers. Good luck!

That sort of reminds me of once when a big ol' stray dog chased a bear out of his raft at daylight on the lower Rogue in his skives!!!
Word has it, that bear was never seen again......(and the folks that witnessed it have never been the same either!)
We still fished with power bait and night crawlers. Good luck!

GB, so we can hook the kids up with a few fish, mind if I ask what kind of power bait you guys were throwing at them? We were using rainbow PB at Clear Lake up on the McKenzie a few weeks ago.

I was there this last weekend, and fishing was definetly slow... finally got 3 nice ones on Sunday am between 8am and 9am... they ended up hitting on cheese flavored powerbait, with about 2 foot leaders, fishing in the cheese hole. As for stuff in the boats, I left all my gear in my boat, including down riggers etc, and had no problems. We stayed in the cabins as well, and didn't have any problems. If you doc your boat in the marina, they keep is reasonably well lit at night, so that may deter folks from stealing stuff... it's a beautiful lake, but definetly not red hot fishing right now.

I was there in late July and early Aug and had my boat at the resort for 4 nights and didn't have any problems.... But I did see Jennie's post on the other thread and it got me worried too.... for next year if I go.

Heron,
Rainbow and Sherbert PB were the ticket. We also caught some on a PB crawler combo. We used dfferent scents as well. Fished in 28-35 feet of water. Got bit at all depths. Slider egg sinker weights with about a 30-36 inch leader. 4 lb. Florocarbon and 6 lb mainline.
Good luck!
