Hello,

I am taking the family to Diamond Lake and renting a boat. I have heard of guys just tossing out dough bait and letting it float. But, how is this rigged up to get it down into the deeper water? I have fished it behind a weight so it floats up off the bottom, but if it is downline from a weight and the weight is not on the bottom, won't it float right next to the main line and spook the fish?

Help?

if your getting wind pushed across the lake, your powerbait won't be hanging straight up from your weight but instead suspended out a bit in the oppesite direction the wind is pushing you. This can be a good thing.

no wind and bait hanging straight up from your weight, they'll still hit.

I would say that this is one of the reasons to cast away from the boat.

And leaving a belly in the line serves 2 purposes...

1. It lets the fish take the bait and set the hook themselves.

2. With a belly, the main line should fall away from the sinker toward the boat... unless you cast downwind. If you're anchored and the boat is generally pointing upwind, a cast from each side and slightly forward should help keep the mainline away. Or so I would ASSume.

Bottom line is... it works!
