The wife and I went to Palina on the 3rd to fish for kokes. We threw everything in the tackle box at em we got 8 the 3rd and 7 the 4th useing hand tied spinners in green and red the fishing was extremely slow. Then we went to East lake and had a blast we fished the N.W. end of the lake for kokes with the same spinners most of the fish came on green spinners we caught 20 fish in 3 hrs throwing back the smallest one for our 10 fish limit. We also picked up 4 nice browns 1 4lb -2 3lbs and a smaller one. Fish the next day with the same results man its nice to catch fish its been a slow year for us. I want to thank FRG and ET for the tips on twitching (pulling on the line while trolling) that works so great all of the fish at paulina and the brown trout at East were caught with this method.

thanks for the report. Sounds like east is the hotter ticket between the two lakes right now. Nice work.

Based on this report I took the family up to East on Sunday, mid day. Fished for a couple hours until the kids timed out. Ended with 10 kokes. Lost quite a few also. I use to fish east for kokes but started hitting paulina more over the last few years. I had never tried trolling for kokes at east, just jigged. We had a great time, very productive fishing.
Started off hitting pink hootchies and then they seemed to die so I put on a spinner, modeled after one of Elktalker's, and started picking up fish again. All the fish had very dark red meat, no real variation in the meat color like I see at most other lakes. A couple were starting to show the spawn is drawing near.

biggest was about 14(big hookjaw male), remaining keepers were just short of that by an inch. let a couple go that were around 11" and skinny, probably next years spawners.

My report from East lake for the week of 8-9 to 8-15 was alot of kokes average size about 13" to 14" several three person limit days. We fished buz bombs mostly 40 to 50 ft , I saw more fish cought with smaller lures but they were smaller fish. Some fish were starting to change color ( see my pictures on file), We like the 2 and 1/2" size lures most all colors seemed to work but I like the lighter colors like white and add tape red, blue and green. Mornings were better and the overcast days were best, We landed 3 browns with 2 at about 20" . The weather is starting to change so wear warmer clothes or have them with you, I have both my fish smokers going now and hope to have several batches done so we can work our way to the coast for the fall run on the Columbia,,,,,and as always,,,,,,HAVE FUN AND BE SAFE
