I have been waiting all week for my order of spinners from Rob over at R&B. Yesterday they came.
I had asked Rob to whip up some weighted casting spinners for throwing out in the salt for off-shore coho.
The day started off slow. We didn’t get bit for the first hour but after a move of a few miles we were soon into a fish. And then another. It became feast or famine as we either we not getting bit or we had a double. Every fifteen minutes or less we caught two or three fish.

And we hit the jackpot on keepers! Our first nine fish were all hatchery.

Amongst all the action I kept my light spinning rod, a GLoomis STR 1044-2 S, with 12 pound test ready and handy and I would fire it out there and start retrieving.

I ended up getting my three fish while my guys caught their three fish.

Mission accomplished! I wanted to experiment with casting light gear to these aggressive salmon and it worked first time out.

There are more spinners and colors to experiment with so I can’t wait. If this works out well I plan on bringing along several of these rods.

Hopefully more details to come.

We finished up the day at 11 a.m. with a triple and then headed in.
