I've heard you guys talking about patterns stabilizing in the summer. Will this be happening soon? I haven't been out in a couple weeks and the last outing left some bass to be desired. Any info would be a help. I'll be heading onto the gorge after the 4th

Yes, the bass are in predictable places now. You will catch a few on the bank but more off points and on the edges of ledges (didn't know I was a poet). Also, if you can locate humps, that can be good. Any current breaks should be investigated.

Outonalimb, You know fish are where you find them. Some days are just off, the next might be hot. I've stopped worrying about it....just fish and let the scales fall where they may.

That said, I always use what I call "The 180 Approach" to fishing.
And that is, If what your doing isn't working go 180. By that I mean if your fishing shallow, go deep.....if your deep, go shallow....reaction bite not working, try finess approach like drop shotting......brass spinner blades not working, go chrome....no fish on rock, go find weed.
The basic strategy is kinda like a binary search, eventually your gonna find the right pattern.
The fish are ALWAYS out there SOMEWHERE. A large part of the fun is finding them.
Anyways, this 180 Approach works for me when I'm stumped on what to do.
My dad used to say, "Son if what yer doing ain't working... don't keep doing it, try do something else."

Great advice, HNF. A buddy and I were fishing Celilo the other day when the water was dead calm and the air temp. was around 105. Fishing was really tough! I think we hooked around 15-20 fish, but most of them were a pound or less (and some much smaller) with 3 or so 2 pounders thrown in, no real pigs. We tried everything and fished, shallow, deep, ledges, drop offs, top water, everything. Some days, it's just tough goin'. Even met a couple of Columbia vets out there and they did better than us but not as well as they expected.
