I catch them all the time with frog poppers on my fly rod. Never tried eating them though.

Just cut the leg off at the hip joint and peel the skin off. Once the skin is peeled down towards the foot as far as it will go just cut the foot off and you are done.
Cooking is pretty easy....Fry over medium heat is a common method.

WOW! I ate bull frogs at Boy Scout camp about 50+ yrs ago. We used a flyrod and flys to catch them. Haven't seen a frog worth eating in a long time though. Guy's used to gig them too. Gig is a spear head that looks like the devils pitch fork. Haven't seen one of them in a long time either.

BTW you might also like to try fried grasshoppers and choc. ants. We were tuff or stupid one back them. Why would a kid carry 75 pounds of canned beans in an official boy scout pack and a couple eggs in a shirt poocket then eat bugs and frogs?:passout:

All it takes to catch bullfrogs is movement. I believe they are color-blind like most creatures in the animal world but they really home in on any type of movement or disturbence in the area.
Not sure if snagging or using hooks is exactly legal anymore so beware of any advise I send your way.
A great way to catch them with rod and reel is to use a spinning outfit and tie on a old fashion spin-n-glo. The kind with the built in treble hook.
Just cast it paralel to shoreline or at the frog if you can see him. Just twitch it on the surface until the big bull goes for it. They snag pretty easy.
Check the regs. before you head to the water folks.

I used to have the nickname Frogger when I was younger growing up in Lyons, Or. and when I was olderr it was my CB handle. The best things I have used to catch Bullfrogs have been rubber lizards, worms, crawdads, and grubs...pretty much anything you can rig weedless. Movement is key! And if you can, stalk them at night! I have never ate one though....

I haven't done any frogging since I was a kid in Wisconsin. Just Leopard frogs there, much smaller. I've been getting the itch to try some Bulls here. I've heard there are some out on Sauvie's. If you want to try it some time, let me know. Chris

Bullfrogs are an invasive species and not considered a game fish. You can take them with any method you can think of, including hooks, snagging, bow and arrow, hands, netting, etc...

They taste just like chicken....No really they do! I use to jig for them at my uncles pond. Sneak up on them with the fly rod a dance a dry fly around them until they would grab it and stuff it in there mouth. Good fun.

I used to use a large, red-feathered treble hook. Bang 'em on the head & they'll use both front feet to stuff it in their mouths. I've done the same thing with a night crawler on a hook & have had them take surface lures. They seem fairly indiscriminate and, I'd guess, pretty low on the intelligence scale.

And yeah ... they taste just like chicken.

I would go gigging with my father as a kid, we would always go out at night. My dad would use a spotlight/flashlight to make there eyes glow, then just run up beside them in the boat, and gig them. I was 10 years old welding my own gigs with 16 penny nails, and a chunk of steel!
Best way to clean them, is pound a nail through a block of wood. Impale the frog onto the nail, then cut the skin around the legs and peel it off! Soak the frogs leggs in salt water over night, dont be surprised when the legs are still kicking in the water! Always thought that was funny, frog legs dont taste like chicken, they taste like frog, realy good eats!:meme:
