Anyone fishing in this area lately? The Girlfriend and I are headed there 7/3-7/5 with the dogs, for my first trip there. Any advice on where to start? thinking of sleeping on an island, or in the boat. looking for walleye, perch, crappie, smallmouth, etc. How about some of the smaller lakes, any suggestions for hooking up with nice panfish? Have a 20' lund fisherman.

Go see Mardons resort on Potholes. They can steer you in the right direction. I lived in Moses Lake and Coulee City. If it were me I would hit Banks Lake for some smallmouth and Walleyes. Stop at Big Wally's in Coulee City and stock up on some plastics. Grubs on Jigs in Green Pumpkin, Pumpkinseed and Dirty Purple, Motor Oil and Watermellon. Troll Fow Walleyes in Devils Punchbowl with Bottom Walkers and worm harness spinnersand the back side of Steamboat Rock. Mid lake is good also and there is a midlake launch with free camping and restrooms. Its basically a big gravel parking lot. Or you can camp for free at Mosquito camp. Its on the south end of the lake across from dryfalls cafe. There is also a launch here also. Watch your depth as the south end of Banks has hidden rocks. Use common sense if you have some : )They call it Mosquito camp for a reason so bring the bug dope. If you must fish Moses Lake the weeds shouldnt be bad there yet. Its a shallow lake for the most part. I do think you would have a much better time if you went to Banks Lake. Much more pretty an area and its out of Moses Lake and out in the country.

Good Luck....wish I could go:meme:. I miss it up there. My Father is up there and he is a guide...or was..mostly retired. Big Wally's Guide Service.

Was there at Potholes friday and saturday morning. All I can say is rocks! The rock bank which is the dam in the early morning or before it gets dark. The problem is the wind especially in the evenings. From what the resort told me was senkos in whatever color you like. We were marking 'eyes in 30 feet on the southwest side of goose island, but were catching smallies instead as we reeled up to check lures for weeds. You have mail.

Well made it to potholes thurday at dark. unloaded and found a place to camp for the night. friday started fishing, we picked up a small catfish trolling worm harneses, then a 24" Walleye. fished all day hard, had a few small bites, no hookups. then in the afternoon caught 2 small perch. sat started fishing in the morning, caught a small catfish, and that was it for us at potholes. sat late morning, loaded up and headed to scootney Resevour. ran into a couple guys leaving that had 5 walleye. we fished mid day, and managed to pick up 2 perch. Left the lake about 5 pm, and headed to crow butte, on the columbia. Launched and found a spot to camp out. Sunday went fishing in the main river, trolled worm harneses, but had no luck there. so 3 days of fishing and caught 1 Walleye, 4 Perch, and 2 Catfish. Pretty dissipointing, but it was all new water for me. I think early july is too late for a trip like that. Shound have went a month earlier. Rod

Month earlier may have helped.....but man...Walleye fishing can be tough if you've never fished the area before. I'd say you did well! I most likely would have come home with 1 less walleye than you did!
