After much weeping, wailing, and gnashing of teeth I finally switched out our old steel cable with Scotty 250lb Dacron braid. Of course this was after last week at Merwin when winding up after a hit to check bait when one of my little ferrules attached to the cable for stacking came up to the pulley and POP! there goes my ball and clip. After fishing with Dacron
yesterday I don't know why anyone would ever use steel(although Dacron
is a little more costly). I know it would be possible to cut it with the filet knife, but I try to be careful with that. It makes no hum in the water, electrical current is a non issue, and it is as smooth as silk when wining in and letting out. The other thing is I took a sharpie to mark on it if I need to stack releases so no more ferrules!
