I was wondering if anyone has had any success with running a hydrofoil on their T-8? I am looking at either the SeSport 200 or the Dolefin as recommended products for this application. The SeSport 200 is around $40 and the Dolefin is $90. Basically the same concept just slightly different installs...anyone care to expand on their experience?

I'm not sure what benefit a hydrofoil would have on a T-8. Hydrofoils help with planing a boat if it's slightly underpowered, but a T-8 isn't designed to be a main engine, it's designed for trolling. If you're running a small boat and using an 8hp for main power, you'd be better off with an F8 instead of a T8. The gearing and prop pitch on the T8 are set up for a top speed that might not plane even a small boat. (Though you might be able to plane it if you switched to a higher pitch prop.) If you're running a larger boat then there's no purpose for a hydrofoil on the kicker.

I should specify that I am usiing the T-8 on a 17' Drifter and as it is, the motor pulls the bow up quite a bit so I was hoping to use a hydrofoil in efforts to plane the transom end, thus bringing the bow down a bit.

Have you tried to change the bolt locations on the motor to adjust your trim. Is it straight down or is the prop/lwr end fwd pushing the back of the boat up

Buy the prop guard from Clackacraft, it's worth every penny. The nice thing about the design of this unit is it doesn't require you to drill any holes in the motor casing, it just clamps on.

Here's the link..................

I can't say what it will do on a T-8 but when I had my 17' drifter I had a 15 HP Merc 2 stroke the fin helped keep the nose down but it still ran bow high I also bought a long fuel line and put my fuel tank in the nose of the boat that also helped.
