Friday, Saturday and Sunday the weather was terrible. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday it was beautiful. Wife and I like to jig only. A lot of small kokes at the surface to 20 feet. The larger fish, 10 to 13 inches, we found at 40 plus feet. We would start in around 50 feet in the morning and move to 80 to 100 feet of water later in the morning. When the fish were hitting it seemed like most any jig would work. We used a variety of bright pink, orange, white and wife caught several on a purple and white jig. The blue Nordic caught fish as well. We fished mostly the North West corner of the lake.

Would like to try jigging at Wickiup or Cresent in the next week or so. Have not been to either of the lakes for several years. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

I used to fish Wickiup alot. We too liked to jig for them we would move from place to place and once we found a school we would drop the jigs let them hit bottom, reel up about two cranks and Wam! As years passed it seemed to get harder to find the big schools. We used zingers in pink, silver with dark green back and blue and white.

Early mornings and evenings are by far the best time to fish. Once the wind comes up if you are in a big boat you almost get moving to fast. Oh yhea we would drift through the schools. We would even take leaded markers and when we found a big school we would drop them in, that way we wouldn't lose the fish.

Good luck

I fished Crescent Lake last week and managed to do pretty well using the tactics included in this report. Unless things have changed, the west side of the lake around Spring Campground was very productive for jigging. The mornings from about 6 to 11 and the evenings after supper til dark were the best times although you could catch them all day. Have a great trip!
