This year I noticed most of my catch of stocked trout have red sores on their bodies. Most are near their vent but some are near the gills. I have not seen any planters with these bruises or sores but I worry if it's a disease or something bad Or is it from being stocked?
I have fished for planters for some time and this is the only time I noticed them. Any ideas?

What's the difference between a planter and a stocked trout?

There's a thread on the main board where someone encountered the same problem at Timothy Lake. One person replied with this idea which makes a lot of sense.
They get that way in the warm water in a hatchery or net pens awaiting release.
If this is true, hopefully it was restricted to to just one bad batch from the same hatchery:shrug:. It might be a good idea to notify the ODFW.

Could this be what they call Coco pods, you see it in many lakes in Calif. Never have come across it in Oregon. All the lakes I fish in Oregon , the water temp are to cold for them to survive in . Just a thought , next time you catch one go by your local fish and game and ask a biologist to take a look at the fish. Then the answer you get will be truth and not speculation .

There's no difference. Both are the same.

Thanks for the reply! I contacted the DFW and will be providing them with photos and then some fish. They think it's "Strawberry Disease" or a bacterial Pathogen. They also said either one will still be safe to eat. (I think I will cut those parts out.

I hope its not a disease. I may be thinking of something completely different but I often see sores on the noses and fins/tail. Always thought those were just from the pens and concrete enclosures. I did catch a few fish with kindof red/swollen areas around the vent and have seen it before but just figured it was something from the hatchery!
