I have recently bought a 80lb thrust 24 volt motor and I have a 12 volt system. do I need to re wire my boat to or change the gauge of wire?

What guage wire do you have to the motor now? My guess is that it's going to require at least 6 guage, it should be spec'd in the manual, and I would follow that recommendation.

When I added my 24v trolling motor things started getting too complicated for me, so I just added 2 more batteries and isolated the trolling motor entirely. Slapped a 3 way charger on it, and lovin it so far. The charger came with schematics on how to wire the trolling motor also.

You may need to change the wire size. The minnkota site talks about what size is required for different distances.

Typically you can actually get away with a smaller gauge wire for a 24v system than a 12v system, not the other way around. Wire gauge is driven by amperage, not voltage. And for the same thrust if you run double the voltage you'll run half the current. Of course you probably increased the thrust with a 24v system but it's still overall likely to draw less amps.
