Just got back from Wickiup. It was cold and windy up to the morning that we had to come home... Saturday, fished by myself landed two nice koke's one 18" and one 17" :thisbig: trolling a green hoochie with garlic scented corn. Wind came up strong about nine and it was hard to hold a decent line so went in for the day. Sunday, got up at O dark thirty to wind and some light rain. Went out on the lake regardless of the weather (thank God for the TR-1) landed five nice Koke's (15" to 17") in spite of the crappy weather and the 3-4' rollers. All in all a cold and miserable day but not bad enough to ruin a good day of fishing. Monday it broke out nice and clear although cold, and wouldnt you know it we had to break camp and come back to the grind :(

I'm headed to Wickiup for the first time ever, I'm taking my 2 boys so the pressure is on to catch fish. I am wondering if trolling is the best method for catching fish there or do some people jig? What part of the reservoir gives you better chance of getting into the fish? Any guidance would help tremendously!! Thanks.

I prefer to troll. The best areas that I found on this trip were where the Deschutes channel met the Davis channel and around the corner to the dam. Others were doing well in the Davis channel. There were lots of people jigging and they seemed to do alright. To effectively fish Wickiup you need a fish finder and hopefully a mapping program. There is a lot of water to fish and because of that it is nice to narrow down the areas that are capable of producing consistant results. There are also a lot of other lakes very close by so depending on what type of fishing you prefer, you should be able to find one that suits your syle.
There is now the capability to reserve camp sites in Gull Point. To do that go to hoodoo.com. Hope you have a great trip!

Thanks Cannon, i appreciate the feedback. My oldest son has a baseball tournament this weekend so it's going to be a pretty short trip this time, However we plan to do alot more camping this year so your info about camp grounds will come in pretty handy!!

There is a Triathlon going on this weekend. Boat ramp access will be limited to the South end down by the dam.:twocents:

BTW . It is customary for newbies to tell us a story , we all like stories. Like how did you get the name 3 fish.
