first time this has happened but on sunday I put finish on my latest rod put it on the drier and monday morning got up took it off and there is 3 little bumps on the butt wrap. looks like some dust. so I put another coat on to try and cover them, that didn't work they are still there, so I am wondering if I could sand the finish a little then apply another coat, not sure if the sanding will dull the finish and show through to the top coat. could use some feedback if anyone has done this before. it really does'nt look bad but it just isn't perfect so I would like to fix it if i can

gently trim the bumps flat with a very sharp razor blade, being sure not to cut into the threads then recoat

Im with Rob, use an x-acto knife (fresh blade) and cut off bump level- refinish. Sanding with 500 grit wet and finish with 1000 wet and then refinish, will dull the color but you can not see the sanding marks, it just dull's the color.

Sanding will NOT dull the color. I will slice off stick-ups & fuzzies with a razor but bumps are best removed with a sanding block. You have to sand with a block otherwise you'll sand the valleys as well and not just the high spots. Believe me I have had more problems with dryer mishaps over the years than any other issue and I also had the habit of being to heavy handed with applying finish. I have fixed lots of lumpy, bumpy, drips, & waves in my finish by sanding. A sanding block is your friend!
Sand the high spots down level with the rest and recoat the entire area and the new coat will clear the sanding like glass. Just be careful NOT to sand into the thread and all is good.
Don't bother with light paper or wet sanding either 80 or 120 grit will do fine and save time.
