Calling all old Merc gurus...

Looking for a little clarification on my 1973 Mercury 850. I'm in the market for a replacement lower unit and I'm trying to determine whether mine is a long or short shaft. The measurement from just underneath the exhaust ports to the cavitation plate is about 17".

Mastertech Marine's website shows that this motor only came in electric start, long shaft: http://www.maxrules.com/Merc_model_files/60-100.html

The Oldmercs website states that this motor came in either short or long shaft: http://www.oldmercs.com/1973Merc850.htm.

I appreciate any help with solving this mystery!
