Teeny Nymphs are about the cheapest and easiest bug to make and they catch fish in the many different sizes and configurations you can built them in. All it is is hooks, lead if you want to weigh them a bit and pheasent tail feathers in different died colors. All the different configurations and sizes are done with the same feathers. Everything from small trout to Tarpon flies can be done with the same simple system.

Good info CRD but I guess I need to be more specific. By bugs I mean kokanee bugs like Vance's bugs. The look like they are molded out of some kind of waterproof clay. Anyone have ideas on materials to use?

did a quick google search on "how to make kokanee bugs" but all i could dig up was the paint they use which is t-shirt paint. my first thought on what the body was made out of was lead, but then i saw some of the other bugs out there and figured it would be way to much weight. you might be on the right track with the clay idea, but to me it seems like an odd thing to make lures out of. lots of people handmake them so it has to be something readily availabil. i hope i helped some.

Some people make their bugs out of heat stick glue and then paint them as they see fit.
