Fortunately it happened after a good day on the McKenzie. We were just hammering the trout with dries. Did see one guy land a steelhead with gear.
Anyway, at first I thought it just separated, because it was about midway up the rod. It was a Redington 6 wt. Not the best rod, but it was OK. I’m still not sure what happened. I didn’t hit anything, I store it in a hard case. I just was in a back cast, and snap!!!
Thinking about a GL. Maybe Sage, but they are a bit pricey. I’ll have to see what they have at Fisherman’s.

did it crack right above the ferrule? If the joint came loose during casting, they can snap like that during the cast. If it snapped away from the ferrule it's possible that the rod blank got nicked or had some sort of previous trauma. Graphite rods are more prone to this type of damage than glass rods.

Been there done that with several of that brand but they did replace it after paying postage to Florida both times. Loomis and Sage are in WA!

It broke about 6" up from the ferrule.
Good excuse though to pick up a new rod. I bought that thing cause it was on sale, but 6wt was a bit heavy. I'm really leaning towards a 5 wt Loomis. I have a GL in 8wt, and really like it.
Thanks!

Since Sage bought out Redington (and now Rio, too), it's now in WA as well.

You might send it in to Redington and see what they say.
And Sage does not own Redington. They are both owned by a holding company that also owns Rio and C&F fly boxes.

Ahh, rod breakage. I have some good rod breaking stories. I think the best one has to be when a buddy and I headed up to Merrill Lake in the middle of August. We were about 8 hours to early for the Hex hatch so we decided to tie one on. It very important to keep you rod away from drunk people. My buddy was nice enough to fall into, yes into, my boat and break my Sage right in front of the cork. Good times.:D
Sorry for your loss.
