Just returned from Diamond Lake. Front started moving in yesterday, so we bailed out a day early. Very windy. We made four short fishing excursions for a total of about 6 hours of fishing in three days. We caught about 30, kept six nice ones for dinner Friday night. Powerbait put dinner on the grill Friday and accounted for about 2/3 of the catch. Mayfly emergers produced about 10 fish with many missed (went with no indicators and strikes were hard to detect). People fishing all over the lake with success, but talked with 4-5 groups of anglers who had not landed a fish in several days. Midges have not hatched yet in numbers, but the warm weather next week will probably change that. Every fish we caught was gorged with insects and were fat as footballs. A 15-incher is a full meal! The two girls were responsible for most of the catching. I was too busy netting fish, re-tying, and untangling wayward flycasts.
