When is a 2 stroke 50 HP tired out?

Looked at a 1900 + hrs 50 HP motor, ran OK, compression unknown at this time. Water pump worked fine, etc.

When do you think it's getting to the end of it's useful life without an overhaul? 1900 hrs seems high time for a fishing motor that's 17 yrs old.

if they ran good oil.. nose around and see what oils he has around, if its merc oil good if its some goofy crap from pep boys check it out well and never got it hot, it should be fine,

what seems to kill them is the salt more than anything, pull a comp test, look at the lower unit oil drop it in the water and water test it for a 1/2 hr, either it runs right or it dont, plan on doing the water pump and stat as soon as you get it unless they just did it with a reciete, :twocents:

Thanks for the heads up ( and the welcome) , I passed on the mtr after finding corrosion on the lower unit. Was left in the salt at the dock.
