I just bought a new-to-me boat with a Garmin FF. The problem is, it's showing I'm in 38-50' of water when I'm in 5' (Silver Lake). What could be the problem?

What fish finder unit is it, and which transducer are you using?

It could be that your keel offset is set incorrectly. My new Garmin has a place where you can set the keel offset to negative numbers for a boat or positive numbers for a sail boat.

Do a google search for a new transducer. When you find it see if it looks the same as the one you have or better yet see if the part number is the same. My guess its the wrong tranducer for the unit you have.
