Hi, Cant wait for the season to start! Can anybody speculate when the season will kick off? What kind of #'s of steelhead over the dam should i look for before theres a viable chance of hooking fish?

Anybody know how the counts so far are stacking up to previous years?

thank you!

There are sure to be steel in the lower river now, just not big numbers.

I remember (a number of years ago) a bright fish being caught below Macks on Memorial Day weekend.

All I know for sure, you won't catch any unless you are out there wetting a line.

"Sherars Trap is typically installed mid-June and removed early in November." No help there...

The rangers at the Deschutes State park are avid anglers, and they answer phone calls. But, are sometimes annoyed by lengthy questions. (They are quite busy preparing for the big season)

you can have some big days in June if you know where to fish.

Yep, and the crowds won't be there yet.

I have started around the 4th of July up at the Blackberry hole and hooked a few on Corkies and Steelies. Might get me a spey rod setup and try it this summer at least I wont have to wade up to my :D.

There have been three steelies caught at Sherars Falls by tribal fishermen I have been told.

Keep an eye on Bonniville but the real deal is The Dalles dam.
