I pulled the trigger on a new motor for my 17' Sea Chaser... Siglers Marine will be installing a new Suzuki 90 (the light, 341# 4 stroke) on my boat next week!

I'm trying to get the install done quick in order to salvage a fishing vacation planned to kick off on the 28th.

Anyone have suggestions on prop size/pitch to go with with this motor and this boat? It is a fairly low gear ratio motor, and it is a "stocky" boat.

Thanks!

Congrads on the new motor!
Suzuki has a few prop tests on there website.
That 198dlv at 1475# dry would be a place to start.

Suzuki's are great motors you should love it. Upon completion of the install the dealer needs to perform a "pre-delivery inspection" form on the boat/motor install that will list the wot rpms. This means they should take it to the river, warm the new motor up, Trim the boat out, and check the Wide open throttle to ensure it is propped correctly and it isn't hitting the rev limiter. Follow the break in procedure and you will have years of reliability. They will have you sign the "PDI" form when you go to pick it up.

I had an Arima 19'SR with a Honda 90 and the optimum prop for me was a 3x13.75" diameter x 16" pitch. The 17" pitch was a bit doggie out of the hole with a medium load. The 15" pitch had too much slip. I'll bet the 17" pitch is the minimum you should try and possibly the 19" as KSB noted. My props were aluminum. If you want SS, go with the 17".

Siglers should offer a 14 day swap if you don't like what you get as long as you haven't damaged it.

I believe the honda gear ratio is 2.33 and the Zuke is 2.59, If you put the Zuke on Danno's old boat, would the eqiuvalent pitch be 16x(2.59/2.33)=17.8?
Considering Azeals boat is lighter, I would think a 19 would not be a bad choice as a test prop. This is new to me as I will eventually be switching to a prop.

If you happen to run across any, the smaller mercury (non v6) props will work on that Suzuki.

Sounds like 17 pitch is the place to start. My only suggestion is that you make sure you test the prop with a full fishing load....full fuel tank...downriggers, weights, fishermen,.....etc..

Personally I don't care how my boat performs in a calm lake with minimum load. It becomes important when I'm offshore in large swells and fishing in a fully loaded boat!

I'll give up top speed for hole shot anytime! My Arima is purposely under propped. With a light load I can over rev the motor, but I love the way it jumps out of the hole.

Just have Ron take you out once you get it all rigged, they will swap props untill you are happy.

I had him drop 1.5 pitch on my boat (225 hp) and what a diffrence.

Like ET said and based upon my Arima experience, a 17 may be the place to start. You will want to test it with what you believe is your standard and heavy off-shore load.

Also, if you have not done so already, check w/ Belinda at Arima, 800 811-6440, for expert advise on the actual placement of the motor (prop) on your Arima.

Many installers will just hang it on there where they think it should go. In many instances outboards are placed too high on an Arima. If that is the case your bottom and top end could suffer.
