Well...
Since I have a "new" wooden dory... I figured I should build a wooden fly box to mount in the boat.
It's only half-full (shame). Guess I better start tying !
See you on Crane Prairie !

Impressive!
It makes my three aluminum boxes with stillwater patterns look sick.

Very nice collection. The old time stillwater anglers in B.C. like to keep the flies kept in boxes like yours. I have a good friend from the Williams Lake area that carries 3 of those cases in the boat at all times. Very nice!
Have a nice day, LA

I think that will make a great addition to your boat.

One thing with the use of the foam for the flies. Make sure that when you put the boxes away dry them out. The least amount of moisture will rust those fine wire hooks in a hurry. Of course you can allways fish without the hook.

impressive. I like the looks of all of those damsel flies and I envy your organizations skills. Good fishing to ya.

It's funny...
When they were in six fly boxes it seemed like a LOT.
Now... so much white space !
Although, I usually always fish the same four or five... so it often feels silly to have 136 different patterns.
But I guess that is the sickness of the fisher-person.

Love the boat. When I've got the spare cash to do it, I want to build one of the mini-mac type drift boats I saw in an old issue of Outdoor Life.
The boat I own now is one my dad built when I was 6 - wood w/ fiberglass cloth reinforcement. It needs some TLC - and I'm starting to fear a new motor, but just like Alan Jackson's song "Drive" says - you can't beat the way a wood boat rides. It's different than aluminum or strict fiberglass for sure.

Thanks Wreckless !
Beleive it or not, it's made of scraps from the stock pile...
I later added some clasps.
I hated to do it, but I put velcro strips on bottom to mount it in the boat.
It's finished with marine spar varnish which is holding up well in the water and sun.
For anyone interested, I routed a groove in top and bottom for a seal. the top has fly foam and the bottom I put screen door strip - seems to work really well as long as it sticks up just the right amount and you get the hinge placement right so it seats evenly all around.
