My son and I are leaving Sunday for a fly fishing road trip. We are going down to fish the Chewaucan and some other streams and lakes in that area. I have never been to Gold Lake (Odell Lake area) but have always wanted to so it will be our first stop for a day or two. Since we are going to be doing a lot of small stream fishing after leaving Gold Lake, I really don't want to take my drift boat. I am thinking about bringing the 8' Outcast and my Outcast Fat Cat float tube. Will I be OK at Gold in a float tube?: Can I launch my tube close to fishier water or am I gonna have to spend an hour kicking to get to it?

Also, does anyone have any experience with Cottonwood Meadows Reservoir down by Lakeview? We are thinking about trying that.

Feel free to PM me.

Gold lake is tiny. Perfect float tube water.

Gold Lake is a pretty small lake, and good fishing can be found within a 100 yards of the campground. I think you will be more than adequately prepared in a float tube and pontoon. If you are camping at Gold Lake and get one of the lake side spots you can just launch from your campsite. There is also a boat launch next to the bridge. Either way you will only have to kick as far as you want to to get to fishable water.

For me it all depends on how much you dig the float tube. I hate them so I would rather take my DB and have that option for the whole trip than mess around with a tube. Life in a DB is infinitely better than 10 minutes in a tube. Your milage may vary.

Don't forget to strip me mickey finns at Gold. Always gets the bigger brookies. If stormy weather kicks up try some prince nymphs under indicators just 3-4 feet down.
