Hi ya'll! So 2 stroke oil has gone through the roof! I'm presently using Quicksilver and was wondering if anyone new of a place to get this brand or one equally as good at a discount? I think I paid about $27 for the last gallon! OUCH! A 5 gallon bucket or a place to refill my jugs? Any ideas would be welcome. Thanks

Don't know about Longview, but here in PDX I could take my empty jugs to Steven's Marine and get the Merc Premium oil put in the for a savings. Have you got a good sized Merc dealer up there? Or, if your planning a trip down this way in the future you could swing into Steven's? I've never done that as I don't use enough oil to relly hurt me financialy, and I'll buy several gallons when it's on sale.

I'm not aware of a Merc dealer in my area. Thanks for the great suggestion though.:meme:

I don't know why everyone thinks Quicksilver is such a great oil.

Just because its on a lot of store shelves doesn't mean its anything special.

Go to Walmart and buy some of their Supertech 2 stroke oil. Its got all the proper ratings and there are a ton of guys using it on the boating forums I read.

Don't be afraid to use it. Its not like its being blended in the stock room by some high school dropout.

It might even be blended in the same place the almighty Quicksilver is.:passout:

There isn't but a handful of companies that actually make 2 stroke oil.

I use that stuff to. For two years, no problem.

I've been using the Amsoil 2 stroke oil with excellent nearly smokeless results. I've turned the corner on 2 stroke oils. Granted, there aren't many manufacturers of oil but then again; not all oils are alike. After market oils will work fine, are ashless and do provide adequate lubrication. I maintain the thought that new engines aren't cheap. Yes, I'm going to spend a little more for the best but I'll never have to worry about having a lubrication problem as long as I use premium Amsoil (which is delivered to my door). :)

There are only two places that make two stroke oil, so it is basically all the same. W-mart at $15 or less a gallon is a good place to start. I thought I had to have the Merc stuff, but got other info that it is basically refined at the same place and different jugs are filled. As long as it meets the standard, which I think they all do, burn it.

Deer Island Marine was talking about selling Quicksilver in bulk the last time I was up there. He might have it by now.

I'm guessing just because oils are refined at the same place doesn't mean that different additives are not added. Gasoline is the same way, it is refined at only a handful of refineries and then differnt customers add there special sause. Not to say that cheaper oils do not work sufficent, I just like to play it safe.

Great thought on Island Salvage 1pump! I forgot all bout those guys. That sure is a great place to do business!

I used Walmart oil. Almost 700 hours and going strong. The readily available synthetics do smoke less, but they STINK, especially amsoil.

Every once in a while I'll use Klotz TCW-3 "snowmobile" oil. $23 a gallon, but it is the least smoky and by far the best smelling oil around.

X2. Delivered to my door for about $25/gl. No smoke and the engine starts easier. I only have a year on this engine with the Amsoil though, the last one was shelled running the Std merc oil, although it had nothing to do with the oil.

Also merc makes two oils, the Standard Quicksilver oil and the Premium Plus Synthetic oil. They are not the same.

Good luck.

I use Chevron, have for years. I get it from the wholesale Chevron dealer that is local. Their main office is in Longview. They aren't an ifish sponsor, so I can't use their name.

This is not true.....You can name any one you wish on the IFISH forums......You CAN NOT post specific contact info, such as a website link or phone number.
