I have been building rod for years but I have next used finish between wraps mainly because I just don’t see the reason for it so can someone please explain why you would want to use a finish between thread raps and what does it do for you.

I am just doing my second rod now where there is a base layer of thread (and epoxy) on to which I lash the guides and add a second layer of epoxy.
All I can teel you is burnishing the thread is way harder over epoxy compared to a blank! the thread doesnt slip as easily and kind of digs in.
Unless I am given a good reason, i dont think I'll epxy the base layer next time.

I apply a lite coat of lite build to my underwraps. Why? So if I have to repair a guide, I might have a better chance of saving the underwrap. Talking thread wet more like taking finish off than really putting it on. I do not like CP on my heavy off shore rods and I do not underwarp rods under 30#

I have rods that are 25 years old that never needed a rewrap. The blank is likely to go soft before the guides wear out. I've never coated the underwraps, and I triple-wrap all but the lightest rods. I'm neutral on the issue of color preserver vs NCP thread. Neither has given me any problems.
The fact is, epoxy finish is so tough, you probably won't have to replace guides.
