OK, I'll admit I'm kinda new to this Kokanee thing, but I've done my homework or so I thought. Anyway hit Pualina Friday, first time for kokes so figured I'd troll around, look for fish, and learn the lake a little. Downrigger set 40 ft, RM Blue Bahama Mama dodger, UV Pink hoochie spinner. Mainly worked by the bird houses, Nothing. OK, headed to the red slide, tried jigging off the bottom(50 ft), Nothing, lost 3 jigs though(OUCH!), worked up a little north, still nothing. Back to trolling, picked up one fish. Sat, pretty much the same story, but ventured across to the point. I treid to pay attention to what other people were doing, but everyone seemed to be moving around alot. So was anyone up there? Did you easily find fish, or am I just not working correctly. Some pointers would be great, possibly heading back this weekend.:passout:

Three of us fished it Saturday morning and got our limits of kokanee but it was slow fishing. All fish caught trolling, covering all over the lake. My buddy doesnt have downriggers - we used ford fenders to a corn tipped wedding ring, 2 ounces of lead, ~80 pulls.

Fish were pretty small but fat, 9-11 inches mostly.

Welcome to Kokanee fishng, and Posting; not just lurking! try the same set up next week, I haven't fished Paulina (yet) but I am not far away and my fishing Fri -Sat was in foul weather and if the sun comes out things change, and dont be afraid to change as well and do a lot of it, speed, depth, colors, scents and lengths.

I will be there tomorrow, I think you did everything right! I think the weather you had this weekend might have put them off (pressure change), My go to lure is anything with green on it, spinners, crappie tube's, them dang kokanee killers or apex's. I have around 300 spinners made up and I bet 250 have some green on them:D The key is to change, change and change some more, they can be picky!

Thanks for the encouraging advice, I'll give it a try next weekend, and try to switch things up a bit. I hear the weather should be better.

Don't feel bad. I fish Paulina a lot and the last couple of trips up there we had a tough time getting our fish. Jigging has been the most productive for us so far this year. Good Luck.

Always try ridiculously DEEP. Sometimes I just go down, down , down a little bit at a time (in measured increments OF COURSE) until bites happen.

This time of year, they might just as likely be about 10 feet down!

I will be up in that area all summer and intend to hit Paulina a few times. Is anyone willing to give me some jigging lure advice? I have always trolled in past years.

Pink Gibbs in 1/4 to 1/2 oz. I am sure different colors would work but I am not as diligent about changing lures/jigs to find the hot one. I use the smallest size that lets me get to where the fish are. I actually did a little better with a 1/2 oz crescent sinker painted red with fingernail polish. mark the fish and start jigging where you see them hanging out on your fishfinder. Some people tip with corn, I have not been doing that lately but will try it if things are slow.

It is fun so enjoy and good luck
