Hm, I haven't fished the clack for trout for a couple seasons - but I like the upper river, and am partial to dry & dropper setups. Almost always use an attractor like a Humpy or Stimulator - something that floats well and rides high - and a small, subdued nymph. Have done really well with a size 10 or 12 dry with a size 12 to 16 dropper. A simple larvae immitator made from red or pink thread wrapped around a scud hook works surprisingly well. Other go-to droppers are a small marabou micro-bugger type (all marabou fly, with marabou wound around the hook for a body and a short tail) or something more standard like a hare's ear, pheasant tail, or zug bug. Bead head if you like 'em that way.
