I did a Fri and Sat up at Odell with Bret (dirty bird) and Sat with my friend Greg who has never downrigger fished or caught a mack. We planned to catch some kokes early Fri, then switch to macks. We had moknot's report and some insider info to help us with the morning koke bite. We found the fish, but the bite was not very hot early. We decided to bail on the koke part about 9am. Russ (nwsoftball) and his wife Lisa were camped at Shelter Cove so we traded reports thru out the day. They cooked us a great bbq burger lunch on Fri. :flowered: We finished with only 2 macks Friday. Had some wind later and plenty of rain after lunch.
Saturday Bret and I decided to target macks all day with my friend Greg. We got a good bite early and Russ called with a request for a good mack recipe. He had a keeper that he bonked. He came over later to borrow a scale to weigh it. 14 1/2 lbs. A decent 1 st keeper mack. We never got any over 30", but finished with 8 for the day and Greg got the biggest of the day at just under 30"............

A great 2 days on the water as usual. Now we wait for Russ's report and pics.:lurk:

We were up at Shelter Cove on Odell Lake Thursday through Sunday this weekend. Thursday was a down pour, we got soaked and caught and released two kokanee before calling it a night.

Friday we started chasing macks. We had trolled for several hours with nothing to show but a bunch of green mucky line, a set of flashers and a wedding ring when we headed towards Sunset Cove to see if we could find fishonbend and dirty bird and look what we found...

Joe threw me one of his "Mr. Lucky" lures and it went on my line. We trolled around for another hour or so and went in. It was my pleasure to BBQ some burgers for Joe and Bret. We ate and sat for a bit and then the three of us headed back out on Joe's boat. We trolled until about 4:00 and Joe and Bret needed to hit the road. As my line neared the boat, I saw a flash of color, lake trout! It wasn't big and shook the lure and took off for the bottom. Joe teased me about "Mr. Lucky" and told me to keep him. THANKS JOE!!!

Saturday morning we hit the lake early again. We'd made a short run and had moved. I was running my line back and getting it ready to fish when I heard an "Ooof" and turned around to see Lisa's feet in the air and her arms in the water. She had decided that she had seen me put the line in the clip enough and didn't want to wait for me. She had leaned out too far and nearly went in. To stop herself from an Odell swim, she broke her fall with the new trolling rod I had just got her a week or so ago and snapped it in half. We laughed, (what else can you do?) and I put the reel on my steelhead rod and told her that I would take care of the downrigger and clip. We got going again and wasn't to long into the troll when this guy popped the line out of the clip.

We sent him back to get bigger and ran the lines down again. We had trolled most of the southern side of the lake and had just adjusted the riggers when my line popped again. When my line counter indicated that I had 30 feet left, my rod pulsed and I saw a flash of color. I gained a little more line and then the fish decided it wanted nothing to do with the boat. Down it went! I gained the line back and saw that I had a pig of a mackinaw. I looked at my little kokanee net and thought, "There's no way that will fit." I got the fish to swing head first towards the boat and Lisa tried to get her in. The fish flopped once and was out of the net, but a hook had buried in the rubber of the net. I saw the fish was stuck and grabbed the net and hoisted the fish into the boat. I'll remember my bigger net the next time! 34 inches and 14.5 lbs.!!!

We got across the lake was near the view point and Lisa was talking to her sister on the phone when the clip released and I asked Lisa if she wanted to catch this fish?

Sunday we went out for some kokanee. It was slow, but we got four and with an hour left in our schedule, we geared up for one last mack run. Time was up and we brought the gear up and I noticed the line was a little heavy. One more small mack to the boat and back down.

It was a great weekend!!! We enjoyed the lake and it's fish and the company.

Nice reports, and some nice macs! I usually find myself going to Paulina or Crescent Lakes and have yet to fish Odell. One of these days I will plan an Odell Lake trip!

Congrats on a great fishing trip and thank you for the report. I drove by Odell this weekend on my way back from K Falls and wished I was on a boat fishing for Macks. I can't wait to land one of those monsters.
