The Mrs. and I are heading to Togiak Alaska for silvers in early September. Anybody have any suggestions on killer coho fly patterns for that area? I have fished there for Chinook, chums and sockeye but this will be the first trip for silvers.

hey tanner,
Anything with some pink and purple and some tinsel flash works great. Also pink polywogs for stripping on the surface. Popsicles in assorted colors work great. Also just tinsel streamers with a little pink or red hacckle mixed in.
Have fun! I will be up next year for fly silvers.

Agree with what everyone is saying, big bright pink or purple streamers. If it is raining, which often happens in September and the rivers are high, fish the back eddies. The silvers will stack up in there and fight for the fly. For a real kick, go for taking one on the surface with a popper. That is one of the best experiences of my life! Have fun!

Yep that is one incredible fishery. DO NOT FORGET THE POPPERS!!! I was guiding a couple guys up there a few years ago and they wanted to bobber and jig fish for them. They brought their own gear and I let them do it of course. They had as many strikes on the bobber as they did on the jig!!! For streamers make sure you bring some pink articulating leaches. Its gonna be really easy to get lots of fish.

Thanks guys. I appreciate the help. Also, I am thinking 7 and 8 weight rods. Maybe a 6 for trout and char. Any thoughts there?
