View Full Version : Sunday Deschutes report

Well, I couldn't resist lashing the Subaru from Hood River to Maupin Sunday for a few hours of fishing.

The river was a little high, but it had good color. The trout have had time to adjust since the levels rose last week, which was good luck for me. I also think more fish have moved onto the banks because of the higher water.

On the other side, the wading was a little tougher.

Still, I managed to hook a few fish on Clark Stones and rubber-legged Norm Woods Specials. The big bugs -- salmonflies and golden stones -- are getting a little thinner on the ground -- and the trees -- but the fish are still looking for them.

I would try to hit the river this week....

More in my blog....

The Deschutes was on fire for us Monday and Tuesday. Fantastic fishing, both top and subsurface.

The Norm Woods with legs is ALWAYS a winner. Just make sure you have a shacker of Top Ride handy at all times. The other big winner was the Rogue Foam variation that I had. There's about 2 weeks left, go get em!

Shake is needed on almost every Deschutes trip. I go through a lot of that stuff....
I love this time of year, as it's the beginning of really good dry fly fishing that goes on and on and on.... Few things are better than fishing a twilight caddis emergence -- and then slamming down burgers at the Oasis -- or ones cooked on the camp grill.
