Can anyone tell how much a 40+ year old bamboo fly rod is worth? My boss inherited his grandfathers and it is in pristine condition. He is going to see who made it and let me know. Any guesses? I can post brand and model later. Thanks.

It will all depend on the manufacturer and condition. You can pick up old bamboo rods for $50 every now and then. Once he finds out the make and model, have him do a google search and see if you can find one for auction or sale online. That will get you in the ballpark.

Mass-produced bamboo rods don't have much value even if they are old.

Most (old) bamboo rods have little value. There are a few manufacturers however that produced sublime instruments. If you see the name Leonard, Payne, Garrison, or a few others you can start getting excited. You never know when you'll find a treasure in a garage sale or estate sale. In the early 70's I scored a Hardy Model Perfect fly reel for 50 cents

need to know the Brand, Model and model number, number of pieces, length, condition as per photographs. It could be worth forty bucks or it could be worth hundreds. If you want to play go to the classicflyrod forum, the best bamboo rod resource in the world.

while true, I've got an old Montague that throws an absolutely beautiful 7wt. Heavy rod though...

Most of the Montague rods were a little weepy, but some are pretty nice fly rods. I have one as well, and I like it

A great book on fly fishing gear, and especially Bamboo rods was written by Harmon Henkins. I'm at work and I can't remember the title, and don't even know if it's still in print. I think it's simply called Fly Tackle. Worth a read if you're into Bamboo

Well as far as what he has told me about the rod, it is a Conlin 3 piece, that is in pristine condition. So far that is all I know.
