Folks, I'm an angler that's plagued with allergies, making river fishing during the summer an intensely uncomfortable experience. Because of the dreaded pollen, I'd love to start surf fishing. Does anyone have any recommendations as far as gear? I have a 15 foot spey rod and a 12 foot switch rod. Do I need a special reel, etc?

you need a good stripping basket for sure...
a dedicated salt reel, or any nice sealed drag system should be ok.. always a good idea to rinse off the salt after each outing....
long and thin running line... the rio speycasting dvd with simon gawesworth has a good section on speys in the surf.... overhead casting a spey with a shooting head line
clousers in the surf = redtail perch = fish tacos! yum

Thanks PacificCoast - that's some great feedback! I'm going to look into that...
