Hey guys,
Thinking about heading to Big Lava next weekend and was curious if anyone has been in there this year? I love the fishing and have usually done really well on nice, big, and fat rainbows. Thanks for any advice and good luck to everyone fishing over Memorial!!!!

According to the ODFW it was still froze over on the 13Th of May.
You may want to try and contact the lodge and see if they are open.

Good Luck

Just checked Hoodoo.com and they said the campground is open so maybe it has thawed out by now. Hope it is for you. :)

Thanks for the heads up guys, would hate to drive the few hours over and not be able to fish it! May have to look into fishing Wickiup this time around and save Lava for a bit later in the year.

Good to hear, I was about to tell the old man that we should plan on fishing wickiup. What size of fish were you catching? and same old powerbait or velveeta off the bottom or were you trolling if I may ask? Thanks again for the heads up

Went to wickiup on thursday, fishing was slow so we went to Lava on friday. Better fishing, use green power bait on the north east side 30' feet of water.

Thanks for the info. We have tried many different things at Lava and small seemed to be the key to catch big! 2lb test, tiny treble, and some little tiny bits of powerbait or velveeta were the trick.

What were the size of fish you were catching?

It is sometimes the secret on line shy fish. We fished that lake for several hours with minimal action, changed the set ups to light leader and smaller hooks and caught a ton of really awesome fish. Everybody has their preference but there is nothing better than fighting a big fish on super light gear!
