Daniel and I took a trip out to pursue some monster rainbow trout!! We ended up hooking seven and landing only three and when I say we I mean Daniel as he landed all of our fish :) I guess I wanted to be the camera man this time around. I did hook two fish though but not long enough. I will give you guys just a small peek into what we were chasing and no that is not a steelhead but close.

This was not the biggest fish landed or the largest hooked!

First I'd like to say nice fish!!! Congrats on a good catching day for you and your friend.

By reading some of your other posts you've asked some questions and got answers back without hesitation. That could change!

Read some of his previous posts and you'll most likely figure out where and what .:twocents:

Granted it only took me 3 minutes to figure it out but he could just post the info and save people some time.

Hopefully all these Ifishers don't show up and take YOUR spot from you. :passout::flowered:

I have no problem people fishing where I was fishing. I was asked by many people not to give to much information about this last trip because of my website and the thousands of people who watch the videos. There have been quite a few places that are much, much more crowded now because of some videos I have made. Its just like people not liking the old fishing and hunting news, they just went around and showed great places to fish and sometimes the locals didn't like it. It was the same with this last trip. I have nothing against posting locations but this time was asked nicely from a quite a few people to not let to much information out. Its not really MY spot because I don't live anywhere near this place, more out of respect for locals. Of course if you watched the video or like you said above, did a little searching it wouldn't be hard to figure out where I was! :D

I'm not going to disagree with your reasoning! We've all seen it happen before. I could honestly say sometimes I haven't let the cat out fully either, but, I usually give a reason up front so people like me don't jump on you, so to say, to give us a little info....not all the info.

By the way, I won't be traveling there anytime soon or ever so I'm one you don't have to worry about....but I will check out some of your vids as I like fish movies!

Again, congrats on a good day catching and I hope to see some more pictures like the one above.

You are right next time I will say that I was asked to not say where and just post pictures. I didn't think anyone would really care if I said or not. I just figured people would like to see some nice fish. People post pictures all of the time in the steelhead and salmon section and don't say where they are but maybe its different in the trout forum. I didn't mean to upset anyone.

I think some people on the site think it's bragging if you post a pic without saying where you got the fish...I don't really get it, though. I don't know what difference it makes.

Personally, I love to see a report for a lake I just visited, with big, fat fish pics, though often I don't get so lucky. Sometimes it's good just to know that there are big fish in said lake, cuz I sure didn't see anywhen I was there, etc..! :)

Always good to see nice fish, even if they're not in my net!

I'm surprised to see a fish with the tail beat like that coming from Klamath Lake - is that from spawning? I didnt think they stocked them in there that big... that lake does grow some huge fish. My personal best rainbow came out of there at 27" long - hopefully I will break that record this year at Diamond Lake!

steelheadstlkr
05-18-2009, 06:02 PM
They don't stock any in there as far as I know, its a native population and it might be the angle that makes the tail look like that.

What does 46 total posts have to do with anything? And if you actually read all 17 posts in this thread you would see where I was fishing. You are so cool with all 1,178 posts, I only wish I spent that much time on ifish instead of fishing for these big trout :D Also, comments like yours is why I don't spend much time here.

For sure!! I will be fishing Diamond Lake a bit this summer and they are some feisty trout but they done pull like a steelhead does. Those big KF fish fight hard and filled the void temporarily from my depression of winter steelhead being over!! :D

I think some of the locals could chime in on weather they stock any hatchery fish in the lake but I believe they don't and never have. They are native redband trout native to the area, but I'm sure some others would have more information about them.

The comment regarding damaged fins, very rarely of the few larger trout that I've caught have they not had damaged fins. I feel it has to do with spawning, being in nature (kill or be killed), and a myriad of other things.:twocents:

Regardless if they were/weren't hatchery fish, I think they are still awesome and sincere congratulations are in order!:applause:

I know, I wasn't going to say anything just because its not worth it. I catch not only a lot of big trout but countless steelhead throughout the season and later in the season you will see all of the bucks get all sorts of problems and messed up tails and fins! The fish in that lake have just finished up spawning or are getting ready to spawn so I'm sure that's what caused it, one thing is for sure that fish was once 4 inches and grew to be that nice big trout!

Thanks for the compliments!

Probably quite a few bigger than that... last year during the derby the top 15 or so fish were around 3 pounds. I think the post-treatment record is about 7 or so. Knowing what they stocked after the treatment, they're saying that it wouldn't be surprising if someone catches a 10 pounder this year. :thisbig:

Once the campgrounds clear up i'll probably head down there again. :D

Yep, it was fun doing battle with those fish. Chad said they fought like steelhead, but I was quite skeptical. I must say they did put up quite a good fight, and I really wanted to land that last one, because it would have been my biggest trout, even though we planned on realeasing it. It is still nice to get a quick tape on it, just to see what you caught. :D

All he did was honor the request of who he went fishing with to keep it on the down low, is that so unreasonable? It doesn't matter if Klamath is zipperlip or not. If someone took me to their "secret" spot I would honor it in the exact same manner. If 10,000 other people consider it their "secret" too, so what?? More fuel to the fire , went fishing two days this week east of Bly OR after i heard some rumors of some good fish coming out of lofton res. First day ,first fish was a football 23.5 in 6lb redband finished the day catching and releasing four over 20" and about 70 total , most on a black and orange #12 bunny leach built on a rickards pattern . Yesturday only managed two over twenty . For you guys planning on fishing Klamath Lake the water has been really dirty because of all the dike work on the Williamson , but Agency is looking really good . ODFW bio said the fish coming out of Diamond lake are stuffed full of damsel nymphs . Trolling small green flys should really produce . The guys are right though , one day you can fish klamath and get 10 whoppers and not get a hit the next three trips . but the occasional 32" more than makes up for it . FYI they do not plant the lake as the parasitic disases in the lake are 100% fatal to planters . All the fish are native redbands .

No I dont, because I was not advertising it on a post with a heading with an exclamation point just to get people to open it, see a pic of a fish, and get no information about it. And yes, I agree with you on what the moderator said, but there was no "fishermen's tale" to go a long with this one.

For sure!! I will be fishing Diamond Lake a bit this summer and they are some feisty trout but they done pull like a steelhead does. Those big KF fish fight hard and filled the void temporarily from my depression of winter steelhead being over!! :D

steelhead are awesome athletes but your also dealing with current, I wonder how those KL trout would feel if caught in a river?

I can vouch for the Klamath River Rainbows. I have caught fish the same size and bigger out of the canyon and Steelhead have nothing on them. Those are some tough, acrobatic fish :applause:
