Any bank access? I'll be in Bend third week of June and thought about driving over. I was thinking power bait on the bottom, but I won't have a boat. Is it doable?? Thanks

If you park at the ramp by the store/resort and head to the right as you face the lake, there is a trail that will lead to some good spots. May be snow?

It is doable. I have seen bank fisherpersons all the way around the lake, near the Velveeta Hole. I am pretty sure the trail takes off right at the boat trailer parking area, at the main ramp. Hopefully the ice comes off soon! Good Luck!

The nice people at the resort / lodge will show you right where the Velveeta Hole is, and rent you a boat to get to it. I recall that is quite a bit more than casting distance from the bank, and is more of a general area, than an actual "hole". I think that area got its name from the good ole days, when some fishermen used to use a lady's stocking combined with cat food, tuna, cheese, and various other smelly and tasty things to entice the trout to a particular area. Of course that does not happen anymore....... Good Luck!

Small rubber raft and oars and you can fish Little Lava lake next door. Fish aren't real big, but still fun. Don't have to worry about the waves.:twocents:

I've hiked the trail from the boat ramp several times in the last few years and bank fished along that shore. Never had a problem catching fish. My daughter and took a short trip one year, left the boat at home, and sat and watched the sunset while trout after trout bit on our outfits. We used single hooks and snipped 'em all off except for two 18 inchers we carried back for breakfast the next morning. Yum! There is a real nice fish cleaning station there too.
