He's sure lucky that he didn't actually break his neck.

That guy is an idiot... that is why you dont jump wakes at a 45* angle with the motor trimmed all the way up going 70+ mph (guess).

That boat was not even close to set up correctly, look at how rough it was riding with even the slightest chop before his crash.

The only thing that guy was missing was a beer in his hand :passout:

Straight up operator error. He was a idiot that day, but who knows how many other days.
I wonder if he got back on the horse so to speak......?

Very lucky but could have been worse than that, another boat in the water, just imagine that. Thank goodness no one else was hurt.

I try to be nice and not call people an idiot, but that's one of the dumbest things I've ever seen someone do. I wonder how much beer was involved?

Obviously that was a stupid event and and eye popping crash, glad he's still alive...

And I don't mean to be too critical of the video but my first three questions are:

1) If he's following a boat and being video'd, why did he have to float face up in his life jacket for 10 minutes before he got help?

&

2) How do you get a "nearly" broken neck and collarbone? Either you break them or you don't, it's not horseshoes...

& Finally

3) What was he thinking???

Obviously none of them really need to be answered... just thinking out loud!:D

I don't know guys, looks like he was having a lot of fun ....right up until he BIT IT!

But I agree w/ BassinFever......had he not had his wrist strap on, the boat might've took off right into the other boat and killed one of them. Or at least they'd had a heck of a chase on their hands.
Stupid stunt all the same though.

That guy dosen't need a wrist strap or life vest as he should not be allowed near a boat.

Reminds me of a day fishing around Rock Island when a boat came zooming down the river on the wrong side of the nav cans. Yep they went flying as they hit that reef and I was just sure they tore the back of the boat off. I fired up and came flying in and around from below and although shaken up quite a bit, the boat was holding water and both were physically ok. A miracle to say the least. Mentally they were a wreck though. It didn't look too differant from that video......their boat went FLYING! We towed the boat to a nearby sand bar because I was just sure it was gonna sink and I wanted keep their inboard motor up out of the water. But as luck would have it, only the outdrive & lower unit hit. Of course it was toast.

He's sure lucky that he didn't actually break his neck.I know you were thinking that same thing when we shot through the culvert into Ash lake going wide open so I could keep it up on plane.

I don't want to seem too cold hearted but I believe Darwin failed us here. At the very least I agree he should not be around boats anymore. One way to insure this is..........

I had a similar dill hole speeding around Beacon Rock ramp one day. He had to going flying in front of me to the launch to pick up his buddy and go flying back out. I try not to be to harsh but I was kind a wishing he did one of these

Mike, I am embarrassed to say I left part of my skeg at Rock Island once! Not quite the same league as this yahoo, or so I'd like to think. He had his motor trimmed at "nose dive" angle, or is there a reason to nav a bass boat like that? And I wonder how they managed to get so much of his tirade on video? Somone must have known an accident waiting to happen when they saw one.

......He had his motor trimmed at "nose dive" angle, or is there a reason to nav a bass boat like that? ......

With a bass boat you can trim out until the water pressure starts dropping, that is often the "sweet spot" on some boats.... keeps them on the very back of the pad. On my boat, my sweet spot is just below 1/2 trim on the gauge.... that is where I can reach my top speed. It will only trim up to a bit above half while running, the rest is considered secondary trim and only works when the motor is not in gear.

BUT, having the motor trimmed so high will launch you if you hit a wake... a quick trim down will force the nose down (and slow the boat down a bit), and will allow the boat to "skip" over the top of wakes.

I could not imagine what the guy in the video would have done on the upper willy around 3pm in July when the wakeboard boats are out in full force. He could have ended up in the trees!

And I dont mean to call this guy an idiot (I was the first to make the comment) but its clips like this that give bass boaters a bad name. Same deal when I see a clip of some yahoo launching a dirt bike at the dunes with no helmet on and stacking it up. A few bad apples can cause major harm for the masses.

I thought bass boats were for fishing out of, not acting stupid

yeh this is totally ridiculous driving, i can see someone in a tournament hauling full out to make time, but just a day on the water doesnt make any sense, fishing is suppose to be something relaxing right??? i dont own a full speed bass boat so i dont know exactly what hes doing wrong here (trim. etc...), but man this looks like some down right dumb driving...
