Went to Wickiup Reservoir after seeing the reports from FallRiverGuy. Left town around 2 pm, after a few stops, arrived at the lake around 6 pm. Meet up with twisted lines and picked a camp site. Launched the boats and started a fire to cook some dogs.

On Thursday night I woke up around 2 am, looked at the clock and checked the thermometer. It read 32 degrees inside the van! Did I say cold!

Got up at O dark thirty on Friday, loaded the boat and headed out on the water at 5. Started fishing just south of the Davis channel. Hooked up with my first fish at 5:30. By 8:00, I had 8 fish! By noon when I went in for some lunch I had 13 fish. After lunch went back out and managed to Coral another 6 fish for a total of 19 for the day.

Did the same routine for Saturday. In the morning I got 6 fish and the afternoon got 4. It slowed down to about a fish an hour.

Sunday was the same, except I left around noon and got 5 fish from 5 am to 10 am.

I got them all trolling, mostly with the down rigger and some with my fly rod and lead core. Lure of choice was Pink Hoochie behind a 4/0 dodger.

Tried jigging at various times with no luck, not even a bump.

Here is a picture of some of the fish in a 48 quart cooler

The fish were 14" to 16 1/2"

On Saturday and Sunday morning the lake was covered in fog, here is a picture of it when it was just lifting.

Having no gps, it was navigation by old fashion compass. When the fog did lift, I wasn't to far from where I thought I was!

It was a very good trip and camping with twisted lines(thanks for the mold!).

Much thanks to FallRiverGuy for steering me in the right direction.

Great report Aufish!Sounds like you and Twistedlines had a good time. I had to do a double take when I got to the part that said "I got them all trolling". The jig master broke out the riggers...heck, I didn't know ya even owned one! Thanks for sharing and keep the jigs handy... it won't be long.:applause:

Way to take care of business partner! That's what it's all about and those are some dandy kokes. I still haven't been able to string enough free consecutive days together to make a trip this month. Hopefully next week. Looks like Wickiup is still 94% full which is good news. Meanwhile, don't burn your fingers on that hot smoked fish! :)

Like I said on another post thanks for the Schooling, and boy did I get schooled! had a great time, and I am shure you will get lots of use from the Flutter mold. I could still use some jigging lessons! :applause: A few more days of trolling school wouldn't hurt either, next time Ill bring more gas and some for the boat too..TL

Aufish101,
Oh no, I can't believe it......them troller boys snagged the jig
master, my idol and mentor!:passout:

The jigging world has changed forever never to be the same!

Aufish101's boat desecrated with a down rigger! Hmmmm yuk! ppttuuie!

Never will I give in! I will die stirring the water with a jig while the troller boys carve circles around me catching fish!

I am glad you had a good trip and caught some of those silvery devils.

That one pictures looks like an ocean shot with a fog bank on the horizon.

Thanks for all the comments.

Sometimes you just have to see what the other side is like! Besides, had to make sure the down rigger still worked after 4 years!

No, I haven't given up jigging either!

Good job. Sounds like you did better than most from conversations at the ramp. I felt humbled with only landing 2 out of 7 fish hooked saturday and 2 for 4 sunday morning.

The camping was good though.

Now, I have to imagine that if Aufish101 had even gotten a whiff jigging, there would have been almost no trolling. But the thought of going fishless knowing the size of the Wickiup Kokanee required drastic measures. :D

King Fisher,

They where 2 1/2".

Brian you are right on about the jigging! I have very limited trips and have to make the most of it when I go! Those fish are really nice!

Way to go AUfish101! Jigging or trolling the kokanee all taste the same...........DELICIOUS!!!!!!

I'm chomping at the bit to troll for some kokanee with my new tied Hoochies and 4/0 dodgers I ourchased from the class. I'm one more kid's birthday and a lamb show weekend away from making a break for the high mountain lakes and fishing from dark thirty to dark thirty trying all my lures both trolling and JIGGING. I'm a jigger by heart but troller by opportunity when bringing home the kokanee is the overall goal.

See you all on the water in the Willie DB
